The founder
Sam opened The Owlbear's Table in 2016 after years of hosting games in a cramped Fox Point apartment — a folding table, mismatched chairs, and always one more person than there were seats. The problem was never finding people who wanted to play. It was finding the room.
So Sam found the room. A storefront on Wickenden with good light and enough space for a dozen tables, a shelf of games worth teaching, and a snack bar for the long nights. The idea was simple: a place where you could buy a game, learn it, and actually sit down and play it — with people who'd become your group by the end of the night.
Eight years on, the mission hasn't changed. Sam still runs a Wednesday D&D table and still believes the best games are the ones you learn from a friend across the table.

How we do it
Nobody here works on commission, and nobody's going to push a $90 box on you. If a $25 game is the right one for your group, that's the one we'll hand you — and we'll teach you to play it before you pay for it.
Why we're here
Not home, not work — a place to just be, with something to do and people to do it with. Some folks come to buy, some come to play, and plenty come just to hang out on the couch and watch a game unfold. All of it's welcome.
